Fold takes part to the Washington DC International Design Festival

The Next Wave Industrial Design Exhibition
February – May 2013

Artisphere and Apartment Zero present the Washington, DC International Design Festival, a free 3-month long multidisciplinary celebration of design featuring the 4,000 square foot exhibition The Next Wave.

Provocative, with a tightly-edited array of objects, The Next Wave is a voice for objects that are rigorous and challenging —yet also beautiful. Creating objects that are works of art in themselves, each project sparks a new dialogue, diffusing preconceived notions of design and art, beauty and function while still capturing the spirit of the times.

With over 100 objects covering the areas of lighting, tabletop, furniture, textile, product, electronics, housewares, tools and interactive design, The Next Wave will feature one-offs, prototypes and pieces in production from around the world.

Curated and produced by Apartment Zero co-owner Douglas Burton, The Washington International Design Festival features a 4,000 square foot exhibition that explores innovation in product design from the last 13 years, while concentrating on five areas of interest: eco-friendly design, functionality and minimalism, the conceptual, and the avant-garde. Focusing on innovation from Spain, Italy, Belgium, the U.K. and the United States, The Next Wave allows the viewer to experience ongoing moments of engagement and enquiry between the creator and user.

The festival will feature works by the Spanish Designers Patricia Urquiola, Nani Marquina, Jayme Hayón, Ariadna Miquel or Luis Eslava among others. Some works by the Spanish firms Lladró, Nanimarquina, Gandia Blasco, LZF lighting, BD Barcelona, RS Barcelona, Faces collection and Kettal will be also presented.

12 Days of Christmas

Disegno’s 12 Days of Christmas is a charity project asking 12 designers, fashion designers,
graphic designers and architects to create a seasonal decoration from a single sheet of B1 paper.
Sponsored by Fedrigoni UK, all designers’ fees from the project will go towards the disaster
relief charity Article 25. The money will fund one of the charity’s experts in Haiti for two months,
where they are helping to oversee the earthquake relief effort.
